The founder of The Motorcycle club at Tycroes originally the TT Supporters Club – Clive Hanham is pictured above receiving a Douglas Isle of Man Coat of Arms Plaque from the Mayor Mr. Richi McNickoll in recognition of Clive’s 50th consecutive Isle of Man TT race visit. The mayor and Clive have been friends for 40 years and Clive and his companions were invited to The Mayors Parlour for buffet and drinks before being awarded The Freedom of the Borough to commemorate his achievement. The Tourist Board not to be outdone also heard of Clive’s award and in the photo below is a picture of our man being presented on their behalf with a Silver Inscribed Tankard and free grandstand tickets to The Senior TT Race by Mr. Dave Corkhill M.H.K. (A member of the House of Keys which is the equivalent to our Members of Parliament). When the TT club changed its name to the current Motorcyclist and Competitors Association in 1997, Clive continued as Secretary of our club but stood down as Vice Chairman of the National Committee of the TT Supporters Club, to focus his efforts on local motorcycling issues and competitors. During his time with the TT Supporters Club, Clive raised a total of £38,000 to support TT riders and is obviously very well known and respected by the riders and residents of The Isle of Man. By the time Clive handed over as Secretary of MCA Wales earlier this year, he had served local bikers continuously for nearly 30 years and in recognition of this commitment, his fellow club members presented Clive not only with our Clubman of the Year award but also the honour of being one of our first Life Members. Although Clive doesn’t enjoy the best of health, his enthusiasm and energy never wanes. He intends to continue attending his much loved TT, he is a Trustee on an International Pension Scheme for his previous employer, he has been a trustee of Tycroes RFC (where MCA Wales previously called home for nearly 30 years) and is still serving on their committee, he is also the Chairman of The South & West Motor-Caravans Club and continues to Service, Supply and fit tyres to our club members motorcycles. His willingness to help others is well recognised and has recently been acknowledged with a very prestigious award of a Silver Cup presented by the Auto Cycle Union (The ACU) for being one of the unsung promoters of motorcycling in all its forms. Congratulation Clive from all your friends and fellow club members at MCA Wales.
